• Can I host the payment pages on my webserver?

  Yes, there are two connection options for the WebCollect payment platform. With Customer Link, the payment pages are hosted by GlobalCollect (but visually customized to the Merchant's site). However, with the Merchant Link connection method, Merchants keep all payment pages on their own website/webserver. Upon submission of the transaction, the Merchant sends the payment details to WebCollect via XML. GlobalCollect processes the transaction, collects the payment on behalf of the Merchant and sends a response back to the Merchant, so that a confirmation can be provided to the consumer.

• What technical skills do I need to connect my website to WebCollect?

  To connect to WebCollect, you will need to do some basic programming in a language such as Perl, C/C++, Java or VBScript in addition to HTML in order to write CGI scripts that link to GlobalCollect services. Any proficient programmer can connect within a few days.

• Do I need GlobalCollect specific software?

  No, you do not need any software or modules for WebCollect, however we do require CGI scripts. In addition, it is advisable that your website/webserver supports the HTTPS protocol, but it does not need to be able to connect to WebCollect.

• How should I generate my order number/payment reference?

  You are free to format the order number as you wish. We are not reliant on unique order numbers, as we have our own internal transaction numbers for each transaction. The maximum available length of your order number is 10 digits and should be unique. However, as your customers may need the referral number in communications with you, it is a good idea to use shorter numbers.

• Does the test environment actually support all payments?

  Our test environment has been set up to validate all credit card transactions using the live gateways. Therefore, please be aware when using real credit card numbers on your site, even if you are still working in the test environment and have not moved to production yet. For testing purposes, special test numbers are provided.

• How is transaction data secured once it is transmitted?

  Transaction data is secured via SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) within the GlobalCollect network and with its Merchants. Consumers' transaction security is also inherently provided by the financial institution that operates the payment method.
