GlobalCollect sees YOY growth of 74.6%
Amsterdam, The Netherlands – GlobalCollect, the preferred global Payment Service Provider for both CNP transactions and alternative payment products, witnessed an increase of 96.7% in its daily transaction volume in the US during the recent Thanksgiving holiday. Driven largely by special offers from global merchants, a significant increase in transaction volume is also visible outside the US. Looking at the overall economic climate, the 74.6% YOY growth of US Thanksgiving day transaction volumes clearly proves that the online economy is marching to a different drum.
Thanksgiving shopping becomes an international trend
Although Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the US, transaction volumes outside of the US market also grew significantly. Driven by special deals offered by eCommerce merchants outside of the US, GlobalCollect saw its transaction volume grow by 39.3% this year; in comparison, this number was just 20.3% in 2010. This international growth trend clearly points out a further globalization of the eCommerce market.
Online shopping extended to entire holiday weekend
The significance of the traditional shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday is clearly diminishing, as increased volumes at Thanksgiving remained high over the following days until Cyber Monday. Online shoppers clearly welcome the ability to shop at times convenient for them rather than being restricted to brick and mortar shops’ opening hours.
